I work in many mediums — my favorite is oil paint, which can be incredibly tedious. I also love drawing with pens and charcoal, and charcoal is fast becoming a favorite because it's a disaster 11 times out of 10. Nothing starts as a plan. I'm particular about keeping a piece bold and eye-catching — other than that, whatever I think flows, goes.
I've lived in Pigtown for the past five years — an important, deeply historic corner of Baltimore with kind, cool people on every block. I'm a people watcher and a social butterfly, so I love a city where I can talk to everyone and eat food made with so much love you feel it for days. One of the many reasons I love Baltimore!
I'm slow and methodical: I make plenty of mistakes, start new pieces while others are still going, and step away often so I can come back with a fresh perspective. The one rule is that a piece has to stay bold and eye-catching. Other than that — whatever I think flows, goes.
Creating is how I end my day. Between caring for my 92-year-old grandmother, who has severe dementia, and going to school part-time, I need to zone out and make something silly, fun, and (always) incredibly messy. This series was a personal challenge to work more efficiently and finish pieces fully before starting new ones — and I did it. Woooohooo!
